We were delighted last week to welcome Oliver Twyford-Allen and Faraimunashe Nkomo from the Australian Government Embassy in Harare. Their visit gave us an opportunity to showcase two key areas of our work: our community-based vaccination programs and our Farmer Field School Poultry Training Centre at Chadza.
Our first stop was Nanthombwe Village in Dowa District, where a group of community based vaccinators demonstrated the skills they had learned just months ago. The locals were clearly proud to show off what they had achieved, and there was a genuine warmth and interest on both sides. It was a two-way exchange - officials learning about the realities of village life, and community members appreciating recognition of their achievements.
From there, we travelled to Chadza, where our Farmer Field School is taking shape. Four local women, trained just last month in egg incubation technology, explained how their new skills would enable them to start small businesses producing chicks for sale to local farmers. It was encouraging to see their confidence and to hear their plans for the future.
We are grateful to the Australian Government for its continued support, and to Oliver and Farai for taking the time to see our work firsthand. Visits like this remind us that our efforts are being noticed - and that we have partners who genuinely care about the communities we serve.
Please support our work here.
Till next time.
Warm regards,
Pat Boland
